Tips for Absolute Beginners on Pressure Washing

Over time, dirt and mold can build up in our homes and office buildings. It doesn't always mean you are dirty. It's something that is bound to happen. Often, we get so used to seeing the dirt on our surfaces that we think it's the normal color.

Dirt can dull the surface and make colors fade. However, using brushes to scrub and get rid of the accumulated dirt is a waste of time and energy. It will have very little effect.

House pressure washing is a quick and easy way to clean your building and its surrounding. Pressure washing involves the use of high-pressure water to remove stubborn dirt and molds from surfaces.

House pressure washing doesn't apply to just walls and floor surfaces. There is also roof pressure washing. Roof pressure washing will get rid of stains and dried leaves that have been stuck on your roof. It makes your roof shine.

By pressure washing your home or office building, your environment will have a new feel – it'll look spotless.

Tips for Absolute Beginners on Pressure Washing

Also, don't forget to include the windows. Pressure washing and window cleaning is an activity that is needed occasionally. There is always a pressure washing company close to your location. You can either hire pressure washing services or do it yourself.

However, it's vital that you understand how pressure washers work before you attempt using one. Don't just hurriedly buy one because you know of its benefits. There are also risks associated with using a pressure washer incorrectly.

Using a pressure washer wrongly can damage your property. There are different types of pressure washers and nozzles for different purposes. Also, there are safety tips and rules you should follow to avoid any issues. If you are an absolute beginner, then read on to get the details.

Tip 1 – Know the Types and Sizes of Pressure Washers

When it comes to pressure washers, there are different types, sizes, and nozzles. The first thing you should know is that there are two types of pressure washers. There is the gas and the electric pressure washer.

The gas pressure washer runs on gasoline. The gas-powered pressure washer has more force and pressure. This makes it clean surfaces faster. The downside is that it makes a loud noise and produces emissions. Also, it requires constant maintenance. Due to the emissions produced, gas pressure washers shouldn't be used indoors.

The electric pressure washer uses electricity. It doesn't produce emissions, but due to the electronic feature, it is not as portable as gas pressure washers.

Also, the size of pressure washers differs. The size of the engine determines the capacity of the pressure washer. A small engine will not produce as much pressure as a bigger engine would. For sizes, there are;

Light duty pressure washers with a PSI of less than 2,000 (pounds of pressure per square inch). They can clean small household items.

Medium duty pressure washers have a PSI of 2,000 to 2,800. They can clean driveways and fences.

Heavy-duty pressure washers can produce water pressure of 2,900 to 3,300 PSI. They can clean larger areas and reach two-story buildings.

Professional pressure washers are bigger than heavy-duty pressure washers. They can produce a pressure of 3,300 PSI and above. They are mainly used for professional pressure washing services that can take hours to complete.

Tip 2 – Choose the Nozzle

When it comes to pressure washers, there are different nozzles that serve different purposes. Knowing the different colors and their capacity will help you use them effectively for your house pressure washing. For instance, the red nozzle shoots at zero degrees, and it has a very narrow shoot which makes it very effective. However, since the water pressure is very concentrated, it can be very harmful and dangerous. Cleaning that requires a red nozzle is rare.

Tip 3 – Prepare Your Surrounding

Before you begin your house pressure washing, make sure that everywhere is set. Since you are going to be dealing with a lot of water, close all the windows and doors. Also, cover all the outside bulbs and vents.

Also, clear the environment of any obstructions that may become hazardous. Clear all furniture, stones, toys, wires, and other objects. In addition, make sure that there are no children in view. Either take them out or keep them inside.

Tip 4 – Be Well Kitted

When it comes to pressure washing houses, your safety should always come first. Ensure that you wear protective gear. Avoid wearing shorts and flip-flops, don't expose your body parts. Wear goggles, protective boots, and gloves.

Since you are a beginner and not an experienced one from a professional pressure washing company, you should cover yourself. Even those who offer pressure washing services come kitted. Because of the noise generated, especially from gas-powered pressure washers, you should also wear ear protection.

Tip 5 – Avoid Physical Contact

This is a very crucial tip, and you must avoid it. Do not attempt to put your hands or any part of you in front of a pressure washer. Pressure washers are extremely dangerous to the skin. They can cause serious injuries.

Also, don't direct the spray at anyone. Keep pressure washers away from children! If any house pressure washing has to be done, let it be done by an adult. In cases where an adult is absent or too busy, the services of a press washing company can be employed.

Tip 6 – Avoid Ladders

Pressure washers and ladders don't go together. The force from a pressure washer can cause a kickback effect on the ladder. Climbing a ladder while pressure washing will lead to a severe fall. When it comes to story buildings, use an extension wand for the height, or get experts.

Conclusion

Pressure washing is an easy way out when it comes to having a clean environment. You can clean your walls, sidewalks, windows, concrete floors, and so on. There are pressure washing services out there, but you might want to do it on your own.

Although it's great to try out something new, you should also know a few tips before you begin. Select the right pressure washing machine and nozzle for your cleaning. Take the precautionary measures provided, and avoid ladders.
